BENJAMEN FAMILY

Benjamen Family.jpg

The Benjamens have been living in southern Melbourne for the past 13 years after emigrating from Sri Lanka.

Life was wonderful for the young family. Maduka cared for her young children whilst Glen was always employed.

Eventually Glen opened his own phone company. When Onetel went bust in the late ‘90’s Glen lost his business and has never been able to recover his losses even though he was insured.

From here Glen worked any and every job, many in factories but was unable to obtain any job security. Despite this uncertainty, the family managed to pay their rent and keep going.

2006 proved to be a turbulent year with Glen suffering a heart attack. This derailed the family and it has proven difficult for Glen to find further employment although he is still looking. Bills started piling up and the family began to struggle further financially.

In early 2007, Glen applied for a home through Community Housing Ltd after hearing about us through a friend. The family were approved and now 18 months after living in a Community Housing Ltd home they are delighted with the property and the sense of security they now have.
