How do we collect your personal information?

Where it is possible we will collect personal information directly from you. Your personal information may be collected through the submission of an online application form, telephone calls and face-to-face interviews. However, some personal information may be collected from third parties such as references from a former employer(s) to check qualifications and qualities, police or security checks if appropriate to the position applied for, academic results and if appropriate, psychological assessment results.

We will not collect your personal information from any other third party without your prior knowledge or consent. Your consent may be attained in writing however we may attain your oral consent in certain circumstances.

Disclosure of your personal information

CHL endeavors to use and disclose your personal information only in limited circumstances. Access to your personal information is restricted to the CHL Management Team, Human Resources Team and members of the Interview Panel for the relevant position.

In the course of undertaking our functions and activities as stated above, it may be necessary to disclose your personal information to:

  • •    internal members of staff for the purpose of reviewing and shortlisting your application

  • •   a former employer or employers to check past employment history, qualifications or qualities

  • •   police or investigative service agencies, if appropriate to the position applied for

  • •   academic institutions or competency and technical skills testing institutions or organisations to check your achievements or results

  • •   professional organisations to check membership or qualifications

  • •   professional organisations to check results of any psychological assessments conducted for the position applied for.

In some instances we may need to obtain your written permission in order to proceed.

Security

CHL takes all reasonable security measures to protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, destruction, misuse, modification or disclosure. As far as permissible under law, CHL accepts no responsibility for the unauthorised access of personal information held by CHL.

Direct marketing and your privacy

We do not use your personal information to advise or offer you information on CHL or other products and services.

Contacting us about access and correction of your personal information

To successfully process and assess your application we require personal information from you that is accurate, up to date and complete. Please contact us on 03 9856 0050 EST 9am – 5pm, Mon – Fri if you: would like to seek access to, or revise your personal information or feel that the information we currently have on record is incorrect or incomplete or believe that the privacy of your personal information at CHL has been interfered with.  In these cases you are entitled to raise your concerns. Your complaint will be managed through our internal Complaints Procedure.

If you are not satisfied with the way CHL has handled your complaint you may contact the Federal Privacy Commissioner.

Destroying personal information

CHL will permanently delete all employment applications from the website content management system within three months of the relevant position being filled. CHL will remove electronic records stored in its servers three months after the position being filled unless written confirmation is received by the applicant to keep personal information on file.
