Significance

A recent addition to Community Housing Ltd’s portfolio are seven townhouses in Craigieburn. These homes were designed and built by Community Housing Ltd as part of the Victorian State government initiative, Building More Homes Together 2. 75% of the funding came through the Office of Housing’s ‘House and Land packages’ program, and the remaining 25% was funded by Community Housing Ltd.

Partners

The Victorian Government, with part-funding from the Victorian Property Fund on the approval of the Minister for Consumer Affairs.

Size

Built as double storey duplexes, two bedroom units are positioned on each side of a common wall to create greater energy efficiency. A total of six double storey and one single storey dwellings were created with an 8.4m width per unit including individual entry porch and carport.

The units also provide access for people with disabilities to the ground floor, an open-plan design that uses a central staircase that separates the laundry with the living room and kitchen-dining area. These spaces face outwards to a private garden area.

Timing

Construction was completed in six months, with the first tenants moving in during July 2008.

Recognition

After searching for private rental accommodation for a long period, the tenant is delighted with the quality of the home and the rental rate.
