Community Housing Limited (CHL) will make its biggest injection of affordable homes into the Gippsland/East Gippsland region in its history by delivering 105 brand new, quality-built homes for communities across the area.
With the funding support of the Federal Government and Victorian State Government – through the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) and the Nation Building Stimulus Package – CHL has been exceptionally well-placed to make a major contribution to the growth of affordable housing across Victoria and throughout Australia. CHL currently has over 2000 properties under management and is likely to increase by 600 homes annually. Of these new properties, more than 50% will be designed and constructed by CHL.
In regards to Gippsland and East Gippsland projects that will be completed by December 2010, properties will be located in the following locations:
• Bairnsdale 24
• Moe 8
• Morwell 37
• Newborough 3
• Sale 10
• Wonthaggi 23
“With the additional government funding available, this has been an exceptional year and CHL has been able to provide a huge boost for affordable housing throughout Gippsland and East Gippsland,” says Steve Bevington, CHL’s Managing Director. “These are first class homes that are a credit to the neighborhoods they join and communities they contribute to.”
“In all cases we locate properties that allow tenants to be connected to the community. The tenants in Wonthaggi will be close to public transport, the main shopping centre, and other community facilities,” says Mr. Bevington. “The best part is that these properties are managed and maintained for the long term, so they’re an on-going community resource.”
Bairnsdale and Morwell have also received significant allotments of affordable homes. In both these cities, CHL runs Transitional Housing Services for families in housing crisis, and is aware of the chronic shortage of Long Term Housing..
“In both Bairnsdale and Morwell, low income households need secure long term housing options and the development of 24 and 37 dwellings respectively is our biggest contribution yet, but many more homes are needed,” says Mr. Bevington.
