Maria Kyte, Manager Family Youth & Children's Services
Gippsland Lakes Community Health

“ In a rural area, we need to have good working relationships, understandings of each agencies needs and responsibilities and staff to have clear channels of communication, which encourages healthy debates. As housing support workers we have maintained a healthy working relationship with CHL, we are able to jointly advocate for our clients through the housing allocation process. This has taken us through many transitional tenancies leading to successful outcomes into private rentals and office of public housing.

We have a unique partnership with Community Housing Limited (East Gippsland office), and together we engage with clients, listen to their needs and respect their situation, and CHL has an understanding about clients barriers to accommodation.”

Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation

Established in 1992, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation delivers a range of health and community development services to the Indigenous and wider community population across east Gippsland.

Frank Grubb, Business Manager, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation

“During the past 12 months I have been involved with the Community Housing Ltd staff from the Morwell Office and have dealt with a range of issues associated with Indigenous housing in the Latrobe region including allocations, repairs, maintenance and termination of tenancy. I have found the staff to be very professional and culturally appropriate in their dealings with Indigenous clients, and I have no doubt that the standing they have with clients has been earned out of respect for the effort and hard work that they display in these often difficult circumstances. I am sure that while Community Housing Ltd employs staff of the calibre of Leanne and Cheryl, the relationship between Community Housing Ltd, our organisation and Indigenous clients will continue to blossom and it will be a win win situation for all parties involved.”

Roderick McIver – Manager Social Policy, Darebin City Council

Darebin City Council has a productive relationship with Community Housing Limited. In a three way partnership with the Office of Housing, Community Housing Ltd has built two projects consisting of two units each. These projects were funded under the SHIP program. The submission from Community Housing Ltd and the Council to the State Government offered value in terms of the number of dwellings, as well as an innovation component in regards to sustainable energy usage, and flexibility in unit design so that bedroom numbers could be altered to accommodate the changing needs of tenants. Community Housing Ltd has taken a professional approach to our work together, and has certainly delivered what they said they would.

Penny Kendall – Property Manager, Melba Support Services

Our clients often have complex medical needs where a high level of support is required. Community Housing Limited’s expertise in the development and management of purpose built facilities for our clients has resulted in a professional and positive working relationship.

Community Housing Ltd were involved in the selection of land and the design and development of our seven community residential units (CRU’s). Their designer consulted with families and staff in designing large and spacious areas that incorporated a number of design innovations. To this day, the Department of Human Services still refers to our facilities as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of CRU’s.

As property manager, Community Housing Ltd act as a buffer between the Department of Human Services and the running of the facility, which allows us to concentrate on our core business of helping individuals. We have found them responsive to the needs of our clients, and flexible in dealing with the reality of working with our high needs group.
